Bear Country
Bears are a fact of life in the Smoky Mountains. Do not leave food or anything that smells like food in your car. Always leave car windows rolled up and doors locked--they are clever and can get into your vehicle if you are not careful! Do not leave food or trash on the screened porch, and always put garbage in the bear-proof metal bins.
It is rare for a black bear to attack a human, but it can happen. If you see a bear, keep a safe distance. Do not try to feed it! Read more about what to do in the event of a bear sighting here.
